It is not intended that coverage should be global, only that it should operate
within range of major ports. For the most part this provides virtually total
coverage for coasting yachtsmen, although there are still gaps where planned
stations do not yet operate, or where major ports are a long way apart. The
NASA range of navtec instruments covers all inernational Navtex stations.
the individual stations are identified by a letter of the alphabet. It is
these letters which determine which station you choose to receive. We list
Navareas I, II and III below for your interest.

MESSAGE TYPES & TRANSMISSION TIMES
All messages are
text, there are no weather maps of graphics. Transmissions are broadcast
on 518kHz by timed sequence so that no station will overlap another. This
means there will be some delay from switching on the unit to receiving information
useful to you, and most units are left on permanently whilst the boat is
in commission. You can programme out message types of no interset to you.
Each message type is identified by a letter of the alphabet as follows:
A. Navigation Warnings B. Gale Warnings
C. Ice Reports D. Search and Rescue Information
including Piracy and Armed Robbery Warnings (cannot be rejected by the receiver)
E. Shipping Forecast F. Pilot Messages
G. Decca Messages H. Loran-C Messages
I. Omega Message J. Satnav Messages
K. Other Navaid Messages L. Additional Navigation Warnings
V. Amplifying Navigational Warning information initially announced
under 'A'.
